Use the layers list to turn layers on and off in the canvas. Layers can include the connected image service.
Add layers
Use the Add Layers menu allows to add layers to your map that can be used to provide additional context to the imagery or video you are viewing. The supported layer types that can be added to the map include ArcGIS Feature Layers, ArcGIS Imagery Layers, ArcGIS Knowledge Graph Spatial Entities, ArcGIS Map Image Layers, ArcGIS Tile Layers, ArcGIS Tiled Imagery Layers, Web Map Services (WMS), Web Map Tile Services (WMTS), Markup Layers, and Media Layers.
To add layers to a map using the Add Layer menu, complete the following steps:
- Click Add Layers in the canvas.
The Add Layers window appears.
- Filter and sort the layer cards in the list, search layer names, select layer types, or select layers shared with your organization.
- Click Add next to the layer cards to add to the map.
- Optionally, click View more information about this item to view information about the layer and access the item details.
Turn layers on and off
Use the Layers list setting to view and interact with layers in the canvas view. Layers include the analysis layer you are connected to, its corresponding footprints, mark up and measurements, and any additional layers that are added to the canvas.
To turn layers on and off using the Layers list setting, complete the following steps:
- Click Layers
.
The Layers list setting appears with all available layers currently in the canvas. All layers are turned on as visible by default.
- Click the Hide Layer
button to turn the layer on or off in the Map Panel and Focus Panel.
Note:
The analysis layer and corresponding image footprints are not available to turn on in the Focus Panel.
Change layer transparency
Sometimes layers are overlaid on top of imagery or the basemap, and important objects are hidden. The Layers list transparency tool allows you to alter the transparency of the layers, so you can control the visibility of each layer.
By default, all layers have no transparency applied and are fully visible.
To change layer transparency using the transparency tool, complete the following steps:
- Click Layers
.
The Layers list setting appears with all available layers currently in the canvas. All layers are turned on as visible by default.
- Click the Actions
button on a layer in the Layers List.
- Adjust the Edit Transparency slider to your transparency preference.
Zoom to a layer
Use the Zoom To to focus the map on the extent of any given layer.
To zoom to a layer, do the following:
- Click Layers
.
The Layers list setting appears with all available layers currently in the canvas. All layers are turned on as visible by default.
- Click Actions
.
- Click Zoom To
on the desired layer.
Reorder layers
Layers that are part of the project web map can be reordered to adjust the layer ordering and visibility in the map.
To reorder layers in the map, do the following:
- Click Layers
.
The Layers list setting appears with all available layers currently in the canvas.
- Click the Move up and Move down arrows to change the layer position.
The Markup, Measurements, and Counts layers will always appear at the top of the list, as these are not saved as part of the map. The Analysis Layer will always appear at the bottom of the list.
